Bonding with my dad

infinitebutterflies:

In order for this to make sense, you have to understand more about my dad. He is like Effy Stonem, in that he is a really emotional person, but doesn’t show his emotions to anyone other than my mom really (i think thats why their relationship works so well, he trusts her on a level he could never trust anyone else).

This past year, starting in like June, he has started opening up to me more. Part of it is when I am at school, they only have my sister at home, who hates him. Literally, she will do anything to avoid him and to make him feel bad about himself. It’s quite sad actually. The other part is, I struggled a lot this semester in school and he supported me through it. He even told me he was proud of me. Not in the “Oh look, you graduated, just like a lot of other people.” But “Wow, I am really impressed with you.” kind of proud (I tackled a giant girl in rugby and then got back up to tackle another girl. Which shocked him because of how tiny I am).

So after that, he and I have found lots of little things to connect with. When he drove me home from school for holiday break on Friday, we shared our music on our iPods on the mini’s ipod connector. i told him how i had recently really gotten into The Smiths. My dad literally said, “Really? Wow, that’s so awesome!” Turns out, he has all of the music on LPs. All of it. He has imported albums with songs that aren’t on itunes.

Isn’t he the coolest?

this touched me, strangely, and incredibly. it’s so sad and unfortunate when children disregard their parents; though our parents can be silly and embarrassing, they are forever the only people who will truly never say no to us and who will just always be there. thanks for sharing. reminds me how much i love my daddy. :)
